[Oh, Gohan recognizes that name. He's glad to hear from him. It's not always easy to make friends in a new place, but Izuku's been immensely welcoming to him.]
Hi Izuku! What's up? Can I help you with something?
Hm! I wanted to check in to see how you were doing! It's been a few weeks and I know you are staying with the paladin armada, ne? How have you been liking it?
I know how you feel, sometimes missions and quests can take some time to trickle down to us to do the work...
[Paladin bureaucracy at its finest.]
I found sometimes it's easier to jump into things with a crew outside of the Royal Fortune. You can take missions as you see them! Are you interested in a crew, Gohan-kun?
Yes, a crew! Sometimes groups will branch off from the armada to have their own groups, even if we're still part of the paladins.
I have a crew and a ship with a few friends and my classmates and we've been doing our own quests and missions for a few months now. We have cabins available on the ship and we have a small house on Elah too if you need a room.
[And they are in the works of collecting points to get their VERY OWN ISLAND soon too!]
Our crew is made up of a few boys that are about the same age, too. Would you like to come with us?
[ Even though Gohan is still a few years off from embracing the mantel of a superhero, from somewhere nearby, he'll hear a classic cry for help... in the form of a cat's yowls. If he chooses to follow it, he'll come across a scene that probably every hero has faced before: a cat stuck up a tree while its owner looks on helplessly from below.
Zelda has never owned a pet in her entire life, but when she read on the MANTA board that there were cats in need of homes, her heart went out to the poor things and she decided to take one in.
Pumpkinpatch is a large orange cat with an air of pride equal to his just-barely-overweight form. He is a warrior of great renown, the greatest hunter in his clan. Those birds in that tree? Their lives are now forfeit! Once he climbs up there to get them, they'll make a good meal for the helpless over-large furless cat now in his care. Leaping out of Zelda's arms, he scampers up the tree!--
--But not only do the birds fly away before he can reach them, he's not sure how to get down from here...
[Gohan definitely hears the cat's yowls for help, clear as day in his ears, and it prompts to come running as quickly as he can. He never could ignore an animal in need, so one sounding like it's in clear distress definitely gets him moving.
So he's greeted with the sight of... a cat stuck in a tree? He was definitely expecting something a little more... dire. But maybe he should be glad this is all it is.]
[ Despite the din of his own cries, Pumpkinpatch hears Gohan and looks down at him. The cat is some twenty feet up, backed all the way to where the base of his branch meets the tree, bunched up in such a way that he looks rather like a grouchy pumpkin. He pauses his yowls for just a moment to scowl down at Gohan, flicking his tail impatiently. If you were up this high on such a thin branch, you'd be stuck too. And he's not stuck!-- He's just... carefully planning his descent. It's very dangerous.
Zelda, who is standing on the opposite side of the tree trying to encourage the cat to jump down into her arms, also manages to hear Gohan over the noise. She peers around the tree and spots the boy. ]
He must be. He refuses to come down, no matter how I call to him.
[Gohan jumps a little at the sound of another voice. He wasn't expecting anybody else here. It was a girl... She must be the cat's owner.]
I can get him down for you, if you want me to?
[He didn't want to force her to accept his help, courteous boy he is that was taught to respect what women are capable of. But he'd never be able to live with himself if he didn't at least offer.]
[ Zelda looks from the boy, to the cat, and back to the boy again. The tree looks sturdy enough to support the boy's weight and has enough thick branches that it probably wouldn't be too difficult to climb. Link would be up and down the tree without even hesitating.
But this is probably more dangerous for a young boy than Hyrule's most unkillable cryptid. ]
Are you sure? He's awfully high up and I wouldn't want you to get hurt.
[ What if he falls out of the tree and breaks an arm or something? Zelda would feel horrible if some well meaning stranger got hurt because of her silly cat! (Because really, how can he not figure out how to get down when he got up there just fine?) ]
[Which begs the question of how a child gets into situations where he'd have to rescue animals from trees enough to become an expert at it.
Now, realistically, he could just fly up there. But he doesn't want to alarm Zelda with doing something like that, not to mention he doesn't like showing off his powers more than he has to.
So instead he chooses to just jump up there. Or rather, he disguises his flight up there with a well-timed and executed jump, so here is this child casually leaping 20-30 feet into the air to rescue a cat from a tree.]
[ Zelda makes the incorrect assumption that Gohan means that he's an expert at climbing trees, which is a perfectly normal thing for young boys to be experts at, so she nods her approval.
And wow, he's not kidding about being an expert tree climber... Zelda watches in amazement as the boy effortlessly bounds his way up the tree. He makes it look just as easy as Miriam did leaping up the side of a cliff.
(The people in this world really are incredible!)
Pumpkinpatch, meanwhile, is significantly less impressed by Gohan than Zelda is. When the boy reaches the cat, he will find Pumpkinpatch perched tensely on the tree branch, fur all puffed up and ears folded back. While he's annoyed about being stuck up in this tree, he's even more annoyed about the prospect of being rescued. Proud warrior cats do not need rescue! ]
[Gohan nimbly lands in the tree, delicately perching himself on the branch, across from Pumpkinpatch. It was immediately obvious to him the emotional state the cat warrior was in.
Thankfully, Gohan's always been a bit of a natural empath when it came to animals, almost as if he could understand them, in a way.]
It's okay, I'm not here to hurt you.
[Gohan gives a gentle smile, befitting the calm, even tone he's speaking with.]
You're not stuck, you're just too tired to get down right now, right?
[The cat weirdly reminds him of Vegeta in a way. Gotta appeal to that pride...]
Nothing much, just wanted to see if you're not doing anything right now. If you aren't, do you think you could fly on by here and teach me how you use your ki to fly?
[Gohan's his student now, right? A master can impart a few secrets here and there, even ones that aren't really much of a secret. Besides, even if he tries contacting her, he'd just get his username, so...]
That won't be necessary. She's fine, and she already knows.
I do hope this letter and gift finds you well, unfortunately my magic can only do so much for the people in this world. So, I do hope that you enjoy what I'm able to offer you and that it helps fill you with joy and curiosity!
Happy Holidays,
Santa Claus

[The paladins definitely aligned with Gohan's own personal philosophies for the most part. But...]
But... I am feeling a little restrained by them. If there's trouble afoot, I don't have having to wait around until they tell me it's okay to go help!

[If this was in person, Izuku would be able to see the puzzled look on Gohan's face.]
I didn't know that was even an option for me. Would I get to leave the Royal Fortune and go live somewhere else?
