[ Zelda makes the incorrect assumption that Gohan means that he's an expert at climbing trees, which is a perfectly normal thing for young boys to be experts at, so she nods her approval.
And wow, he's not kidding about being an expert tree climber... Zelda watches in amazement as the boy effortlessly bounds his way up the tree. He makes it look just as easy as Miriam did leaping up the side of a cliff.
(The people in this world really are incredible!)
Pumpkinpatch, meanwhile, is significantly less impressed by Gohan than Zelda is. When the boy reaches the cat, he will find Pumpkinpatch perched tensely on the tree branch, fur all puffed up and ears folded back. While he's annoyed about being stuck up in this tree, he's even more annoyed about the prospect of being rescued. Proud warrior cats do not need rescue! ]
[Gohan nimbly lands in the tree, delicately perching himself on the branch, across from Pumpkinpatch. It was immediately obvious to him the emotional state the cat warrior was in.
Thankfully, Gohan's always been a bit of a natural empath when it came to animals, almost as if he could understand them, in a way.]
It's okay, I'm not here to hurt you.
[Gohan gives a gentle smile, befitting the calm, even tone he's speaking with.]
You're not stuck, you're just too tired to get down right now, right?
[The cat weirdly reminds him of Vegeta in a way. Gotta appeal to that pride...]
[ Gohan's gentleness does not initially endear him to the cat. Pumpkinpatch flicks his tail irritably against the side of the branch. Don't you come up here and patronize him. You couldn't hurt a great warrior even if you tried; you're barely more than a kitten.
But as Gohan continues, the cat begrudgingly begins to settle (although his tail continues to thump against the branch). All right, perhaps you're not as much of a disrespectful upstart as you seem. It's a very hot day, the heat must be sapping his usual strength.
Pumpkin doesn't move from his spot, but he at least doesn't seem so annoyed by Gohan. He watches the boy expectantly to see how he plans to handle this conundrum. After all, he's stuck up here too now. ]
